Supportive Employment
Our Supported Employment (SEMP) program offers people with developmental disabilities the opportunity to obtain their rightful place in the workforce.
About Supported Employment
Supported Employment is based on a principle that individuals with disabilities have the right to be employed in the community where they can earn competitive wages and work alongside coworkers without disabilities. We provide individualized support that enables them to choose the job that matches their skills and interests.
Enrollment in SEMP
Our program is designed to help anyone who wants to work, regardless of the amount of support needed. Employment services are available to individuals with developmental disabilities 18 and older, Medicaid eligible, and enrolled with OPWDD.
The Process
We start with getting to know our individual, to understand the strengths, abilities and conditions needed to be successfully employed. We then reach out to community businesses in area of the person’s interest who might need the skills individual has to offer. Once a right job is found, job coach provides the on-site training and ongoing support for as long as it’s needed.
